Dr. Teresa Seim has been proudly serving patients’ eye care needs over a career spanning over 25 years, and founded Mattawan Family Eye Care on March 10, 2003.
Dr. Seim is a Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. She graduated with honors from the Michigan College of Optometry at Ferris State University in 1997. She furthered her education and skills at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia, completing a Residency in Primary Care Optometry.
While she had an outstanding experience at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Seim was not quite satisfied with the completion of her learning process, so she went on to do a teaching fellowship at the first ever Optometry School developed in the Netherlands.
Upon returning to Michigan in 1999, Dr. Seim served for almost three years as the clinical director of Battle Creek Medical and Kalamazoo Laser Centers of TLC, now Specialty Eye Institute. She also worked in a private practice, two corporate offices, an optician-owned office, performed nursing home eye care, and taught two semesters at the Optometry Clinic at the Michigan College of Optometry. The teaching was fun! The drive to Big Rapids was not.
By opening Mattawan Family Eye Care, Dr. Seim found her passion in being able to care for her patients the way she feels is best for them! She felt rushed in most other settings and couldn’t take the time to fully listen to her patients. Now she can, and is able to properly identify and treat the true issues they have.
Dr. Seim specializes in optometric care of ocular disease, laser vision and cataract co-management, and has diagnostic and therapeutic treatment privileges. She sees patients of all ages for complete eye care, including infants, the elderly, and those with eye emergencies.
Dr. Seim has more than twenty five years of experience and is always seeking to learn more in order to help her patients. Mattawan Family Eye Care has cutting-edge technology to help diagnose some eye diseases that would otherwise need to be referred out to another doctor. She also aligns herself with the best health care providers around, so if she can’t fix the problem, she will know someone who can.
Dr. Seim is originally from Detroit (Redford), but really loves West Michigan. She met her husband Joe in 2000 and they were married in Alaska in 2006. It’s one of their favorite places, and they would eventually like to spend summers there and winters in Michigan. Backwards, right? But Joe loves to ski, so there you go.
Joe also helps run the office, and Dr. Seim couldn’t do it without him. When they aren’t solving the world’s eye care problems together, the two like to take their Gordon Setters, Vinnie and Ollie, up north to enjoy the woods and nature.
Dr. Seim welcomes new patients to her practice and looks forward to having them meet her wonderful staff, especially her new Associate, Dr. Alli Richardson. Vinnie and Ollie are often around too, so just ask and they’ll come out and say hi!
